In the US, fraudulent hotel websites cost North Americans $220 million every year. Some paid Google ads that appear in the sponsored section when you search can be the culprit. These dodgy sites can use deceptive URLs and pirated pictures to trick you in to making a booking, but in fact, you’re not making a booking with an actual hotel at all.
Be vigilant when making hotel bookings online. Use reputable sources like Booking.com or Expedia, or book with the hotel direct.
