Athletes’ bodies are their business. When you have a multi-million dollar career based off of that body, you better make sure it’s insured in case anything goes wrong. From legs and ankles, to hands and wrists and the truly bizarre, these athletes all got insurance to make sure they get paid if it’s ever “game over” on their careers.
Here are a couple of examples:
David Beckham
In 2006, while playing for Real Madrid, the soccer-star insured his legs for 100 million pounds (roughly $150 million USD) through Lloyd’s of London. A few years later, Becks upped the policy to cover his whole body for $195 million.
The policy, which is the biggest in sports history, would pay out if he ever lost any of his endorsements due to a decline in his looks. Needless to say, he and Posh Spice are well taken care of.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo’s club team, Real Madrid, took out an insurance policy on his behalf, insuring their star’s legs for 103 million euros.
